Microsoft Edge Chromium build to be made available via Windows Updates

Microsoft is back with an important announcement. The brand new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge will be pushed via Windows Updates instead of bundling with the Windows operating platform. According to the official support documentation, the Microsoft Edge will be made available on PCs running Windows 10 1709 also called as Redstone 4.

Going forward, Microsoft will distribute Chromium-based Microsoft Edge via Automatic Updates for Windows 10 RS4 and later. The main aim is to enable customers to work with a computer with a secure operating platform. The Redmond-based company released a Blocker Toolkit, which automatically disables delivery and installation of the browser where automatic updates are enabled by default.

The new version of the Edge browser will be developed in such a way that it syncs with the upcoming editions of Windows. The updates mainly comprising of feature improvements will be made available once in 6 weeks. However, the security and other compatibility updates will be made available according to the requirements.

The updates will be installed along with the current versions. To recall, Microsoft had released the preview build of the Microsoft Edge powered by Chromium in December 2018. The release was made via Canary and Dev channels including the availability of the Microsoft Edge for macOS, Windows 7 and Windows 8. You can soon expect a new release for the Linux community.
