TripIt Announces Aggregate Carbon Emissions Tracking for Flights

TripIt has announced the launch of Carbon Footprint tracking for flights. The new feature shows travelers the carbon emissions for their flight including the ability to track annual flight emissions. It also offers practical ways to offset flight emissions. The flight emissions are automatically aggregated across providers including post booking. The Carbon Emissions gives travelers a holistic view of their air travel footprint. The newly introduced feature will be available for both free and Pro users.

With the help of the Carbon Footprint functionality, you can easily keep track of your annual carbon footprint for air travel. It will help offset and reduce the overall environmental impact with practical suggestions in the app.

Carbon Emissions

TripIt calculates your carbon footprint using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which is the same methodology used by American and European government agencies. The app takes into account various factors such as distance, flight class, and environmental elements.

Commenting on the development, Jen Moyse, director of product for TripIt from SAP Concur reveals that the goal is to help you to understand the environmental impact of all of your flights. Moyse added that it will be easy for you to view, track and offset the carbon footprint.

To find out the carbon emissions for an individual flight, you should navigate to the flight details screen where you will find the Carbon Footprint section. You can tap for more information to gather ideas as to how you can reduce or offset your flight’s footprint. The Travel Stats in the More tab provide the cumulative carbon emissions for all your flights in a certain year.
