Amazon drops out of MWC 2020 amidst Coronavirus scare

Amazon has pulled out from attending the prestigious MWC 2020 event due to the Coronavirus outbreak. With over 100,000 tech-savvy enthusiasts expected to attend the event, the move is regarded as a big blow. Amazon usually displays its products and gadgets so that attendees can have a taste of the products. If you are from China’s Hubei province, then you won’t be allowed to enter the venue.

In a statement released to the press, Amazon revealed that due to the massive outbreak coupled with continued concerns, the company will withdraw from participation in MWC 2020. Amazon is the fourth company to pull out from the show after LG, Ericsson and Nvidia.

Coming back to the MWC 2020 event, Amazon had planned to showcase products ranging from cloud computing, AWS, and Gadgets. Moreover, the company was due to conduct one day of conference tracks. The GSMA telecoms industry association has ruled out the postponement of the mega event but will tighten health precautions to safeguard against the Coronavirus outbreak.

The association has laid down strict guidelines, where the visitor for China should have entered the country two weeks before the event. The organizers are expecting around 5000 to 6000 visitors from China for the largest industry gathering.

That being said, Huawei and ZTE will attend the MWC 2020 by isolating Chinese staff for several days prior to the event. Moreover, the companies have decided to employ European staff in the booths.

In a worst-ever disaster, the total number of casualties crossed 900 and has bypassed the SARS epidemic. The reports indicate that over 38000 people have confirmed cases and are under treatment at the isolation center, hospitals, and homes. The deadly Coronavirus has spread to 27 countries and has infected more than 350 people outside China.

After the emergence of the Coronavirus outbreak, China has postponed over two dozen trade fairs and conferences. The tourism hs taken a heavy toll with a steep decline in the visitors during the Chinese Lunar New Year Day.
