Essential Phone is in the news for all the wrong reasons. The latest news is that Essential Phone is currently available for as low as $123 on Amazon. The e-commerce retailer is selling the phone for $599 with just two units left for the sale. The company will pull down the shutters on April 30 and there is no possibility of stocking up more units for sale.
The factories in China have been closed due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. The production is difficult currently because of the lack of manpower. Even if you purchase the Essential Phone, you will not be able to claim warranty because the company is closing down. There will be no staff to accept your phone calls and technical support emails. The company will not provide any software updates after April 30. The customers had received an update in January and that has turned out to be the last and final one.
Essential Phone features a 5.71-inch (1312 x 2560, 504 PPI) Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display, Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 graphics processor loaded with Android 7.1 Nougat. At the time of the launch, the company announced that the phone can be upgraded to Android 10. The 4GB RAM is accompanied by 128GB internal storage.
On the optics front, the Essential Phone carries dual camera comprising of 13MP sensors respectively. The interesting point to note is that both the sensors offer the same aperture value, which is f/1.9. The camera also provides support for LED Flash and PDAF. The front camera offers an 8MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
You will be able to shoot 2160P videos at 30fps using the front camera. The handset borrows power via a 3040mAh battery, which is less than the standard smartphones that are currently being shipped. The phone also provides support for 27W fast charging technology coupled with USB Power Delivery 2.0, which helps you to quickly charge the phone.
If you would like to purchase Essential Phone (beware of no software updates from April 30, 2020), then you can opt for either used or a new phone. The used phone is available for as low as $123 with additional taxes. You can use the phone as long as the device works. You can repair the smartphone but the device will be expensive. There will be no technical support from the part of the company. You are at a great risk but the phone is designed by the original Android creator Andy Rubins.
