Microsoft has released a new Windows 10X emulator image exclusively for developers with support for Win32 apps in windowed mode. The latest version of the Microsoft Emulator will automatically check for new images on first execution of the installer. Hence, you need not have to be part of the Windows Insiders program.
The Windows 10X Emulator image enables you to run legacy Win32 apps, which enables you to participate in the Windowing model. According to Microsoft, system-defined window placement ensures that users have a consistent and simplified windowing experience. Moreover, the placement is designed to find a place on a dual-screen including touch devices. The company will address the concerns based on feedback from the community.
The 10X image also includes an early version of a File Manager app, which will display OneDrive folder when you link a Microsoft account with Windows. This feature is similar to that of the Dropbox folder, which will be visible when you install the relevant executable file.
Touted to be made available on Microsoft Surface Neo, the Windows 10X is designed for dual-screen devices. If you are an app developer, you will have to optimize the apps for dual-screen usage. Microsoft claims that the Windows 10X will improve battery life to a great extent. If you are a developer and would like to test drive Windows 10X, you should download the emulator.
