Microsoft is gearing up to release a major Windows 10 update before the end of Spring 2020. The upcoming update will be most likely named as Windows 10 20H1 or Windows 10 version 2004. The latest development is that the Redmond-based tech giant has published the ISO files of the upcoming update on the official Windows Insider website. According to sources, the Windows 10 version 2004 will be a big update for Windows 10 customers with new features and improvements.
If you are part of the Windows Insiders group, you can download and install the update. However, you should not attempt to install the bits on a production system because of the instability factors. You can try to install the new Windows 10 on a spare laptop for safety. With the availability of the ISO files, we expect the actual release will happen within the next few months.
According to Craig Loewen, program manager for WSL at Microsoft, the WSL2 for Windows 10 users is now available. The new features will be pushed with version 2004 if you are currently working on Windows Insider build 19041.153. To activate WSL2, you should run the following commands
wsl (If a WSL2 distro is your default distro) wsl --set-version <Distro> 2, – wsl --set-default-version 2 wsl --import and wsl --export targeting WSL2
Going forward, Microsoft will be adding WSL to Windows Updates to enable direct pushing of the latest kernel version. You need not have to download a separate ISO image. You should manually check for the presence of the latest kernel for the first few months after the initial release. The automated installation capability will be made available in two months.
