Installation

The Vivid-Pix RESTORE can be installed easily. You just need to download the executable file and perform the installation process. You need to provide the license key to activate the software. You can double click on the Desktop icon named RESTORE to work with the application.

The Vivid-Pix RESTORE makes use of patented artificial intelligence technology, which automatically restores decades-old faded photos and documents. Working

To work with Vivid-Pix RESTORE, you should double click the folder named RESTORE located on the desktop. The splash screen displays a restored photo and you will view the user interface. If there are new updates, you will view a message box from where you can download and install the latest version of the software. If you select Yes, the system will download the required installer for the new update. You will have to perform the required installation process.

The Vivid-Pix RESTORE user interface is divided into two panels. The left side displays the original faded photo, while the right side displays the restored image.

The top side features menus but the majority of the controls used to beautify an old image are placed inside the user interface. To select an image for restoration, you should click “Select Image(s) option. You will now view a new dialog with several options as shown below

You have to select an appropriate fix type to continue working with the Vivid-Pix RESTORE tool. If you select a fix, then the corresponding image will appear on the right-hand side of the dashboard followed by the original on the left-hand side.

The software provides four different types of fixes such as Faded Print or Slide, Badly Faded Print or Slide, Digital or Cell Phone Camera or Faded Document or Text. If you are trying to restore an image, you should preferably select the first three fixes. You can also beautify a document using the Vivid-Pix RESTORE tool.

The purpose of the RESTORE window after image selection is to show you the various possibilities. You can visualize each fix and then select a relevant one according to your needs. Even if you select a fix from the dialog, you can change by selecting “Reset Corrections” button.

The Faded Document or Text produces more light than the previous three fixes. You can also use this fix for images since there are no restrictions. If you select a fix image, it will directly appear on the left-hand side of the home dashboard as shown below. You will be able to easily visualize the visible difference of colors if you compare the left and right-hand side of the below image. The color of the flower has improved including the dress and skin colors.

If you observe the above image, you can visibly visualize the difference before and after restoration. The white segment has whitened and the faded portions have become clearer than the original photo.

The Vivid-Pix RESTORE tool provides two ways by which you can perform the editing process. You just need to select the relevant buttons located under “Select Fix Type” panel on the bottom portion. You can also select the image mode as per your requirements. If you select B&W, the restored image will only change accordingly. The tool also includes Sepia mode, which will look like old images.

The Detail Edit enables you to modify the lightness, contrast, vividness, cyan/red, magenta/green, and yellow/blue options. You should select this option only if you are familiar with colors. The arrow provided on the middle of each module indicates the setting included with the tool. You can drag each of the setting to find out the correct level for your restored image.

You can also make use of zoom/transcribe including sharpening options. The Vivid-Pix RESTORE tool enables the Sharpening option by default and you can view the changes immediately on the right-hand side.

You should select Save/Next button after you are satisfied with the selected options. It will take some time to process the output image. We selected Save/Next button but couldn’t found out the restored image. You will be able to find the restored image inside the Vivid folder located inside the installation folder.

The default output and input directories are named as Vivid and you have to open to view the restored image from within the user interface. We should suggest the company provide Browse button on the main dashboard so that that we can select the desired output folder where the restored image will be stored. You can also copy the output folder path to the Output Directory text box.

Managing parameters

You can manage the parameters by selecting Preferences option from the top toolbar. Alternatively, you can also select Tools | Preferences. The Vivid-Pix RESTORE tool enables you to manage the image processing control including lightness, contrast spreads. You can also change the sharpening radius and sigma. You should modify the settings only if you know the work you are doing. However, the tool provides an option to reset the settings in case if you had messed up with the values.
