Reliance Jio to unveil JioMeet video conferencing app to compete with Zoom

JioMeet

Reliance Jio has added one more app to its kitty with the launch of JioMeet. The Mukesh Ambani-owned company has launched the JioMeet, which is the HD video conferencing app that can be used with mobiles and tablets. The evolution of JioMeet comes in the midst of students and teachers making use of video conferencing apps for e-learning purposes.

The demand for video conferencing tools has increased with the COVID-19 outbreak. WhatsApp has upgraded the video calling facility to support additional users simultaneously. Even though Zoom is one of the most popular video conferencing software tool, the system is plagued by security vulnerabilities. Hence, the demand for a secured communication platform assumes importance.

Touted as a nationwide video platform, JioMeet provides support for five users on the free plan. However, if you opt for the business plan, you can interact with up to 100 users. The app enables you to login via both email and OTP. If you invite friends, they can join via a simple video conferencing link. You can also join the meeting via Google Chrome browser, which will be useful for students.

According to Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, the company has made connectivity and operations easier for customers in these difficult times. Ambani added that Jio employees are trained to think Customer First, which provides great results while serving 40 crore Indians.

The company claims that JioMeet is available on Google Play Store. However, we are unable to view the app when we checked using our smartphone with JIO SIM. According to company sources, JioMeet has clocked more than 100,0000 downloads. With the help of JioMeet, you can perform group calls via a simple click. You can also exchange live chat messages during the conversation including the ability to attend calls in both audio and video mode. It is also possible to toggle between audio and video during a call.

The main feature of the JioMeet video conferencing app is that the call host provides an option to manage the participant’s audio and video feeds using a wide range of controls. You can also disconnect participants who are not required for the chat even during the middle of the discussion.

The app also provides detailed conference history in the form of both audio and video feeds. There is no need to worry because meetings are protected by PIN. JioMeet is designed not to drop calls while you are on the go. The apps work even in those areas with low network but with downgraded quality.
