Donald Trump’s HIB Executive Order Adversely Impacts Tech Professionals, reveals survey

The COVID-19 outbreak has hit technology companies very hard. The employees are working right from the comfort of the home. The interactions among colleagues are happening via video conferencing and there is total absence of celebrations and parties. To add more fuel to the fire, US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order, which temporarily bars foreign workers from coming down to the US through HIB work visas.

Blind, an anonymous professional network with 3.6+M verified tech professionals has carried out a survey to gauge the implications of the executive order. The survey was conducted to analyze how the order will affect the professionals coming from foreign countries like India to the US.

According to estimates, nearly 85000 highly skilled foreign workers bring talents to the US economy via H1B work visas. The Blind survey was conducted between June 23 and June 25. Nearly 62 percent Amazon employees claimed that they are employed on work visas. The survey results indicate that 60 percent of Facebook employees also work on visas, while overall 53 percent of users answered yes to the query.

Nearly 1/3 users answered yes to a query whether they are impacted by the new Executive Order suspending new H1B work visas. According to the survey results, 5 percent of people claim that their family members are directly impacted by the new executive order. However, 26 percent claimed that they are impacted in a limited way by the President’s executive order.

Nearly 17 percent of people are on a lookout for a new job at a different company after the order. However, 34 percent of people claim that they are searching for a new job in a new country, while 17 percent of users state that they are ending job search. The Blind survey reveals that 43 percent of users are on a lookout for a job in North America and 33 percent are looking for jobs in the UK and Mainland Europe.
