Microsoft has released Windows 10 version 2004 to consumers and enterprise customers in May 2020. The latest news is that Windows 10 version 2004 has removed advanced update deferral options. You will not notice Advanced update deferral options in the settings. According to Microsoft, the change is intentional and deliberate because it will simplify Windows Update experience on Windows 10.
The Advanced Update options included with Windows 10 enables users to defer the installation of the updates. As a user, you will be able to block Windows 10 update installation on the laptops and PCs including convertibles. The absence of the feature was noticed by Windows Insiders in the Feedback Hub.
As per the updated documentation released by Microsoft, the update installation policies for Windows 10 were changed only to target devices running an update version that has reached the end of service. Hence, several devices update only once a year. The deferrals have been removed from the Windows Update settings Advanced Options page on Windows 10 version 2004 to prevent confusion.
Alternatively, you can continue to leverage deferrals by making use of local Group Policy by navigating to the following menu option.
Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Update | Windows Update for Business | Select when Preview builds and Feature Updates are received or Select when Quality Updates are received
It’s critical for the users to install the updates that are being rolled out frequently. The installation of updates will go a long way to protect your PC from security threats and vulnerabilities.
