Zoom mocks JioMeet stating security and scalability issues

Reliance Jio launched its own video conferencing platform named JioMeet but Zoom has mocked it on the grounds of security and scalability. According to Google Play Store app page, JioMeet has been downloaded by 500,000+ users. We expect the JioMeet app to hit 1M mark within the next week. There were widespread criticisms about the JioMeet app especially the UI looks identical to that of the Zoom.

The San Jose-based video conferencing company has now responded to the allegations by stating that Zoom is still popular among the masses because of the experience, security, and scalability. Moreover, the Zoom platform has seen intense competition since 2011 and has become the best platform of choice for millions. The San Jose-headquartered company hasn’t revealed as to how JioMeet has copied the Zoom platform.

Zoom – An established platform

The press statement further reveals that it takes a long time to become the unified communications platform as of today. The backend requires an immense amount of work to deliver a seamless user experience including sophisticated security and scalable architecture. In these tough times, JioMeet will provide tough competition especially when millions of students across India have been making use of video conferencing apps.

Spike in Zoom usage

You should note that Zoom also witnessed a sharp rise in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown throughout the country. The company accepted the fact that Zoom has compromised user accounts outside of China at the behest of the Chinese Government. Zoom also clarified that they are not doing it anymore due to security reasons. The app is facing terrible scrutiny in India in the wake of an anti-China sentiment because of the border tensions.

Zoom under deep scrutiny

The alarm bells are ringing for Zoom with Intelligence agencies urging the Government of India to ban the Zoom app with immediate effect. The Narendra Modi-led Government hasn’t included Zoom in the banned 59 apps list. According to sources, the officials are closely watching the security issues over Zoom.

Going forward, JioMeet will be highly popular because of its Made in India tag. Nowadays, people are serious when it comes to boycott of Chinese goods and products, unlike the past. There will be a steady decline in the usage of Zoom in the forthcoming days. Reliance claims that JioMeet is capable of handling 100 users simultaneously.

While Zoom has a cap of 40 minutes under the free plan, JioMeet provides free for up to 24 hours. We don’t know whether JioMeet will be free for an extended time. The company could charge users by keeping the free plan with limitations by the end of 2020. This will enable users to test drive all the functionalities before venturing into paid plan.
