Apple has reportedly started production of iPhone 11 in Foxconn plant near the outskirts of Chennai. The move is seen as a major boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The mass production of iPhone 11 in India will surely reduce Chinese dependency to a large extent. Moreover, the devices will be made available immediately after the launch instead of waiting for a long time for import and customs clearances.
The Government of India under the leadership of PM Modi has announced a self-reliant India project under the brand name Atmanirbhar Bharat. The move is to isolate China in core business entities and reduce their overall monopoly. With the start of the iPhone 11 production in Chennai, the company will not import goods from China. Moreover, there are possibilities of exporting the upcoming iPhones to other countries.
The Atmanirbhar Bharat project was announced by PM Modi after the deadly clash between Chinese and Indian forces in Galwan Valley, Ladakh. The relationship between the two countries became rough after the clash. This has prompted the officials to announce the self-reliant initiative.
If Apple shifts its production base from China to India, then it will boost employment in India. With mass layoffs across all sectors due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, there is a need for more companies to establish their shops in India.
Apple is also considering a plan to establish iPhone SE production plant in Bengaluru. Going forward, we can expect not only speedy shipments of new devices but also export of iPhones from India to countries across the world.
