The COVID-19 is spreading like a wildfire across all countries. With companies asking their Software Professionals to work from home, there is a growing fear among the people about the future of their jobs. There is so much uncertainty about the workplace since there is no relief from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Blind, an anonymous professional network, with over 3.6M verified users had asked three questions in March 2020. The first query was that Do you fear being laid off?. As per the study conducted between March 20 to March 28, over 5700 responses were analyzed.
The network also queried its users as to whether they have started looking for new ways to supplement your income. The final query was to gauge the number of months it will take until you foresee life going back to normal. Will it be less than a month, 1-3 months, 4-6 months, 6-12 months, or more than one year.
According to Blind survey, nearly 46 percent of professional fear of being laid off, which is 57 percent increase in March. The survey indicates that the fear of layoffs at Amazon fell from 46.3 percent to 42 percent. Moreover, 64 percent of Uber professionals still fear being laid off. In March 2020, nearly 24.9 percent of surveyed professionals have been on a lookout for new ways to supplement their income. However, this figure spiked to 42 percent in July 2020.
The Blind survey reveals that 40.2 percent of the IT professionals in March 2020 is of the opinion that it will take 6-12 months for life to go back to normal. When the same question was posted 4 months later, 44 percent of the professionals are of the opinion that it will take more than a year to go back to normalcy. As many as 4 percent of the IT professionals believe that it will take 1 to 3 months.
The medical world is still not ready with a vaccine and the researchers have been working very hard to develop a credible vaccine. With the recent spike in the COVID-19 outbreak, it will take nearly two years for the whole world to settle down unless a vaccine is prepared before that. The Global economy is suffering and we have to adjust to the changing times.
