Microsoft Surface Duo Launched: Everything you need to know

Microsoft has released Surface Duo with trending features and specifications. The Surface Duo is available via Microsoft Store, Best Buy, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The Surface Duo comprises of a dual display comprising of an 8.1-inch and 5.6-inch AMOLED displays. Moreover, the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. The Surface Duo is powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB or 512GB UFS 3.0 storage. Microsoft has incorporated advanced features and specifications to tap the the-savvy mobile community.

Display

The Microsoft Surface Duo features an 8.1-inch Dual PixelSense Fusion AMOLED display with a resolution of 2700×1800 pixels and 401 PPI. On the secondary side, the Duo offers a 5.6-inch Single PixelSense AMOLED display with a resolution of 1800×1350 pixels and 401PPI. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.

Performance

On the internals, the Surface Duo is integrated with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB RAM coupled with 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.0 internal storage. According to Microsoft, the processor is optimized for the dual-screen experience. The Duo borrows adequate processing power via a 3577mAh battery with 18W fast charging technology. The device will be capable of delivering up to 15.5 hours of local video playback and up to 10 days of standby time with up to 27 hours of talk time. Microsoft has bundled 18W charger inside the product package.

Camera

The Microsoft Surface Duo ships with an 11MP adaptive camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF support. The 84-degree diagonal FOV is optimized with AI for not only front but also rear camera modules. The camera provides support for auto mode with low-light and HDR multi-frame photo capture including the ability to detect dynamic range scene. The camera also includes a dedicated portrait mode with adjustable depth control, panorama and burst modes respectively. You will be able to record 4K videos at 30fps and 60fps. The FHD video can be captured at 30fps and 60fps. The Surface Duo provides support for Gyro-based digital video stabilization. You can work with Microsoft Teams and Skype video conferencing up to FHD at 60fps. The Redmond-based has integrated high CRI LED Flash for both front and rear cameras.

Connectivity

The Surface Duo provides support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, 4×4 MIMO including FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, WCDMA, GSM, GPRS, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou and QZSS. The device also includes a mono speaker with dual-mic noise suppression and echo cancellation technologies. The dual display smartphone offers advanced Full Duplex communication for voice calls in hands-free mode. You can communicate using one eSIM5 and one Nano-SIM card. The audio department is showered by Qualcomm aptX Adaptive technology. You can work with Microsoft Surface Duo using Surface Slim Pen, Surface Pen, and Surface Hub 2 Pen.

Microsoft also provides an optional nano-SIM card along with the product including Microsoft Complete Protection Plan and Microsoft 365.
