YouTube is reportedly testing Native Picture in Picture mode for iOS app. According to 9to5Mac, YouTube is testing Picture in Picture (PiP) mode on its iOS app. You will be able to work with Pip functionality using your iPhone after its introduction.
The new Picture in Picture feature enables you to watch YouTube videos while working with other apps. The new functionality was discovered by Daniel Yount during a YouTube live stream on his iPad. The PiP feature is under the experimentation stage and will be rolled out widely.
The PiP functionality is made available to iPad users since iOS 9. With the latest development, the Cupertino-based company brings PiP to iPhone with the launch of iOS 14, which is expected to take place by the end of 2020.
The upcoming feature is part of a collaboration between Google and Apple, which brings support for YouTube’s VP9 codec to tvOS 14 and iOS 14. You will be able to watch 4K content via YouTube without any difficulty. We don’t have any information as to when the PiP feature will be made available to general public.
YouTube enables you to playback videos in the background if you subscribe to YouTube Premium. The PiP feature was restricted to paid users but now you will be able to work using your iPhone. If you are working with iOS 14, you can watch YouTube videos in Picture in Picture Mode via Safari.
