Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20241 to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. The update brings in theme-aware splash screens for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. If you launch an eligible UWP app, the splash screen color will automatically match your default app mode.
The theme-aware splash screen works like this. If you have activated Light theme, you will view a light theme splash screen. If your PC has been running on Dark theme, then you will view a dark theme splash screen. The list of apps that provide support for theme-aware splash screens are listed below.
- Settings
- Store
- Windows Security
- Alarms & Clock
- Calculator
- Maps
- Voice Recorder
- Groove
- Movies & TV
- Snip & Sketch
- Microsoft ToDo
- Office
- Feedback Hub
- Microsoft Solitaire Collection
According to the company sources, more apps will provide support for theme-aware splash screen within the next few days based on the feedback. The feature will be available to a small subset of Windows Insiders on the dev Channel. Microsoft will introduce the new functionality to all users in the dev channel based on the initial feedback.
You can manually check for the presence of the update by navigating to Windows Insiders dashboard. You should enter “Windows Insiders” on the Search box located on the Taskbar and then select “Windows Update” option. If you are unable to view the update entry, you should make sure that you are on the dev channel by hitting “Windows Insider Program”.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20241 also ships with enhanced Windows disk defragmentation functionality. The Optimize Drives page has added a new “Advanced View” checkbox to provide a list of all volumes including hidden volumes. Microsoft has revealed that even though you will be able to find the checkbox, you will not experience any changes when you click on it. The Current status column has listed more details when volumes are not specifically available for defragmentation. If you press the F5 key, the page will refresh automatically.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20241 has removed the Japanese Address and Rinna candidate suggestion services from the Japanese IME. The update also introduces improvements to users who work with Narrator. If a high priority notification appears while the PC is locked, the system will read it loud when unlocking. The latest update also includes several bug fixes, which you will find on the official blog post.
