Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246 to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. Microsoft has added the name of the branch to FE_RELEASE for all Windows Insiders. According to Microsoft, they are working to change the branch flight builds just they did in May 2020 along with the release of the MN_RELEASE branch. The latest preview build has been named 20246.1 and this indicates that the upcoming build will have a prefix 2, 3, 4, etc at the end.
Microsoft is currently prioritizing the work that is being done in a specific branch and hence they will move Insiders between various branches. As a result of the FE_RELEASE branch build switch, Microsoft has removed the updated emoji picker, redesigned touch keyboard, voice typing including theme-aware slash screens temporarily.
Going forwards, the Calendar app will return to its classic look and feel. If you change to Dark theme, then you will notice classic version of the app. As of now, the Calendar app is aligned to the item you pick and select. After the installation of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246, you will be able to view a pop-up notification, which outlines the changes made to the preview experience.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246 has added automatic Linux distro installation to the wsl.exe –install command. If you would like to install the Windows Subsystem for Linux quickly, you just need to type wsl.exe -install into the command line. Windows will configure WSL instance including their Linux distro of choice.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246 has resolved an issue that causes a KMODE_EXCEPTION bugcheck while using virtualization technologies. The update has fixed an issue that causes Malwarebytes Web Protection connectivity problems on select devices. Microsoft also resolved an error associated with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bugcheck on tcip.sys file.
If the Pick Time button in the Windows Update dialog is not performing any work, then that issue has been resolved with this update. If you hover over an item in Task View and if it displayed an unexpected border around the item, then you will not face the issue again. The chkdsk hanging issue has been resolved in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246. The crash that occurs when you disconnect certain audio devices while playing audio has been resolved.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20246 has fixed the Windows Update page problem if connected to a Wi-Fi network without any Internet connectivity. You will not face any problem with the Update and Security module after the installation of the update. The crash associated with the management of partition size in Storage settings has been resolved.
