Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20277 (FE_RELEASE) to Windows Insiders in the Dev channel. Microsoft has announced that Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel will have the ability to receive builds from the RS_PRERELEASE branch. The builds will be offered as an optional update via the seeker experience in Windows Update.
To take advantage of the development, Windows Insiders should navigate and choose to install the currently offered RS_PRERELEASE build. After the installation of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21277, you will continue to receive RS_PRERELEASE builds in the future.
According to Microsoft, Windows Insiders who choose to stay will continue to receive builds from the FE_RELEASE until the company moves all Insiders in the Dev channel to RS_PRERELEASE builds. This will happen by the first week of January 2021 after the upcoming holidays. Even though the Redmond-based software giant has released RS_PRERELEASE build, they still require Windows Insiders running FE_RELEASE builds to gather feedback. It is to be noted that the list of available fixes and known issues between FE_RELEASE and RS_PRERELEASE builds won’t be the same. You should also note that Dev channel builds are not specifically matched to a particular Windows 10 release.
If you choose to install a RS_PRERELEASE build, you will not be able to move back to receive FE_RELEASE builds as the device will be on a higher build number. However, you will have an option to rollback to a previous version for up to 10 days or until you install another build.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20277 has resolved an issue that could result in the WinRE volume label being lost after multiple upgrades. The update also fixed an issue that could result in apps failing to update with error code 0x80073D02.
Microsoft is also looking into several known issues, which include update process hanging for extended periods of time while attempting to install a new build. The Live previews for pinned sites is not yet enabled since you will view a grey window while hovering over the thumbnail in the Taskbar. The company is working on enabling the new Taskbar experience for existing pinned sites. It is also possible to unpin the site from the Taskbar including removal from the edge://apps page. Microsoft is also working on a fix for an issue that results in error 0x80070426, while using the Microsoft account to sign into various apps.
