Amazon Alexa Injects Live Translation for Six Languages

Amazon Alexa has been refreshed with support for live translation for six languages including Hindi on Echo devices. You will be able to fetch real-time translations with Amazon Echo devices. With the help of the new feature, you will be able to start a session for real-time translation between two languages.

The smart speaker immediately provides voice-based translations, which enable conversation between speakers of two different languages. As of this writing, Amazon has added support for translation in Brazilian Portuguese, French, Hindi, German, Italian, and Spanish from English. The new feature will work only on those devices with English (US) locale.

The Live Translation functionality session can be started by rendering the command “Alexa, translate Hindi”. If you want Spanish, you have to tell “Alexa, translate Spanish”. The relevant translation will be displayed on the screen if you are using Echo Show devices with display. It is also possible to use the translation capability via Alexa for Hospitality platform or battery-operated devices such as Echo Auto and Echo Input Portable.

Amazon is very much late to introduce the new live translation functionality. Google had introduced Interpreter Mode using which you can experience similar functionality on Google Home smart speakers. We expect the introduction of the new feature on smartphones as well within the next 2-3 months timeframe.
