Microsoft Cortana Removed on Android and iOS Platforms

Microsoft Cortana

Microsoft Cortana app has been removed on Android and iOS operating platforms. We are unable to locate Microsoft Cortana on Google Play Store. The Redmond-based software giant has officially deactivated the Microsoft Cortana app for Android and iOS as of March 31, 2021. However, you can access reminders and lists via Windows or the To Do app. Even though the Cortana app has been removed from Android and iOS app marketplaces, you can still access it from within Windows 10. With the removal of Microsoft Cortana, Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri have emerged as competitors.

Microsoft has shut down the Cortana app for Android and iOS after 2.5 years of its official launch on November 2018. If you had created content using Cortana, it will stop functioning including lists and reminders. You can make use of Windows or the To Do app on Android and iOS to gather information. Microsoft has closed Cortana app to pave way for the Halo-inspired AI assistant powered by Microsoft 365.

It is to be noted that several third-party companies have enabled Microsoft Cortana on their smart speakers. However, Harman Kardon had removed Cortana from the Invoke smart speaker in March. The removal of Cortana app on Android and iOS is a setback to the Microsoft Ecosystem. You should note that Microsoft Cortana was never able to achieve to mission due to the aggressive competition unleashed by Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The Android smartphones ship with Google Assistant and will be activated just by pressing the icon on the home screen. The iOS fans will always use Siri. Amazon lovers will work with Alexa assistant available via Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Echo, and Amazon Echo Flex smart speakers. According to rumors, Microsoft is considering to integrate Amazon Alexa with Windows 10 but we are not sure about the timeframe.

The problem with Microsoft Cortana is that the voice assistant never developed into a complete system. Microsoft doesn’t want to continue with the development of a product that is not popular among the masses. The loss is for those consumers who purchased Cortana-enabled speakers. You now have to make use of Google Assistant, Siri, and Amazon Alexa for all your voice assistant requirements.
