Microsoft released the much-awaited Windows 11 at an online launch event on June 24. The new Windows 11 brings in several new features including an updated Start menu and user interface. Microsoft claims that Windows 11 is secure than Windows 10. The company hasn’t announced the availability date of the new operating system and the pricing information. However, the Redmond-based software giant has revealed the Windows 11 System Requirements so that you can prepare for the installation of Windows 11 upon availability. In this article, we will examine the core Windows 11 System Requirements in detail with detailed coverage. You will learn the components need for the successful installation of Windows 11.
The primary requirement of Windows 11 is that you require a system with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0, which is integrated into the processor. You require Intel Core 8th generation or higher to work with Windows 11. This is a hard requirement and hence people with Intel Core 7th Generation or below can’t work with Windows 11 unless they buy a new laptop pre-loaded with Windows 11. In addition to TPM 2.0, Windows 10 also mandates the requirement of UEFI with security booth capability.

If you buy a new laptop or PC now, you will have to check whether the processor meets the requirements of the new Windows, which is the availability of Trusted Platform Module 2.0. The main reason for this module is because it brings in advanced security measures including login via Windows Hello. A major chunk of users who purchased laptop or PC before 2017 will not be able to experience the new features of Windows 11.
There is no other way other than to purchase a new device with TPM 2.0. You can also wait till manufacturers release new devices pre-loaded with Windows 10. It will take 4-5 months for the availability of new laptops with Windows 11. If you recently purchased a laptop with Intel 8th Generation or above, then you are good to go.
Downloading PC Health Check
You can verify whether your system meets the requirements set by Windows 11 by downloading the PC Health Check app provided by Microsoft. You can download the tool from Windows 11 product page. The tool will reveal the real problem behind the incompatibility of Windows 11. The steps required to check for Windows 11 compatibility are as shown below.
1) Navigate to Introducing Windows 11 page, scroll down and select Download App link located under the “Check for Compatibility” section. The tool will be downloaded to your PC and you can start the installation process immediately after the completion of the installation.
2) You can either open “PC Health Check” app directly after installation or manually by selecting the entry on the Start menu. You will view a screen as shown below
3) You should click “Check now” button to verify the status of your PC. The tool will inform whether your system is compatible or not after scanning your laptop/PC.
As you can observe, the PC Health Check app suggests that the PC is not compatible with Windows 11. However, you will continue to receive Windows 10 updates until 2025. You can purchase a brand new laptop with Windows 11 in January if you wish to work with the new operating system.
Some of the other requirements for the installation of Windows 11 are a 64-bit dual-core processor with 1GHz speed, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, DirectX 12 graphics, WDDM 2.x alongside a minimum 9-inch HD display. As usual, you require reliable Broadband Internet connectivity for the installation and configuration of Windows 11 Home.
Windows 11 promises rich features with compelling graphics and user interface elements. The look and feel of the Windows desktop have been changed completely. However, Windows 11 borrows the new features included with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build such as News and interest, and much more.
