Samsung Galaxy S21

Samsung Galaxy S21 doesn’t live up to our expectations

Samsung has been dominating the smartphone manufacturer market for quite some time. However, its latest venture might be a major letdown. The South Korean tech giant is known for delivering high-end products with innovative design but something seems to be amiss with its newest release. The Samsung Galaxy S21.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Brief Overview

At first glance, the Galaxy S21 appeared to be missing too many features to be a worthwhile update. Because the Galaxy S series has always been the do-it-all, have-it-all phone, it’d be natural to believe that this move would be disadvantageous (which it has).

The Samsung Galaxy S21 features a 6.2-inch display and the same triple-lens camera and 4000 mAh battery as the previous year’s model. Even though it has the new Snapdragon 888 processor, it’s still about as conventional an improvement as you can get these days. Other upgrades include a revamped design from its predecessors. While the phone is decent enough to carry out functions such as iOS transfers, other variants such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is a much better option.

Why is Samsung Galaxy S21 underwhelming?

Samsung released the Galaxy S21 line sooner than usual for a Galaxy S phone, owing to a pressing need to improve sales for their flagship S brand. According to a new source out of Korea, the S21’s early release didn’t help propel sales for the year, and the phone isn’t a big hit, falling much below the two prior Galaxy S phones.

According to the Business Post, the Galaxy S21 series sold around 13.5 million handsets in its first six months. If it sounds like a lot of phones, it is because it is for most companies that aren’t branded Samsung or Apple. However, given that this is a Samsung phone, that figure is fairly low in comparison to prior Galaxy S phones.

That’s a 20 percent reduction from the Galaxy S20’s first six months of sales. It gets worse when you compare it to the Galaxy S10, where the figure has dropped by 47%. The Galaxy S21 isn’t helping Samsung reclaim its flagship position.

Consider the fact that, to attract more customers, Samsung dropped the price of the Galaxy S21 by $200 across the board as compared to the Galaxy S20. Of course, as we noted when the phones were first released, Samsung had to make significant cuts to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ to achieve those pricing points. The price cut makes little sense since it did not take account of various external factors such as people skipping the device.

The Bottom Line

Samsung Galaxy S21 is a major miss for the South Korean giant. Lately, it seems to be losing its top smart manufacturer ranking to Xiaomi. Samsung needs to step up its game but perhaps the Unpacked event may return the company to its prestige, Consumers have been looking forward to the innovative Samsung Z Fold 3 and the new rumored tri-fold tab. We’ll have to wait for the next lineup release to evaluate if Samsung has lost its touch or was this just a momentary relapse.
