Commenting on the development, Dr K Sivan, Chairman, ISRO appreciated the efforts of OPPO India to integrated NavIC into their innovative R&D initiatives. He urged the product team to include NavIC in all their upcoming products. The arrival of NavIC will boost the smartphone communication to large extent.
NavIC stands for Navigation with Indian Constellation. It’s the regional geo-positioning system designed in India by ISRO to provide accurate positioning in India and around the Indian subcontinent. The technology is regarded as equivalent to the US-based GPS, Russia’s GLONASS and Europe’s Galileo. The space agency is of the opinion that NavIC is more accurate than GPS with position accuracy of 5 metre. Moreover, NavIC is powered by dual frequency, while GPS is dependent only on L band.
