Touch Gestures

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 includes 5 new touch gestures using which you can quickly navigate Windows 11 on a PC with touch. You can swipe your finger from the middle of the taskbar to activate the Start menu and swipe back down to dismiss the Start menu. You can swipe between pinned/all apps and recommend/more on start from within Start menu. You can swipe with your finger from the bottom right of the Taskbar to invoke Quick Settings and swipe back down to dismiss it. Microsoft has updated the animation when swiping to invoke and dismiss Notification Center from the right edge of the screen to invoke responsive feel. The full screen gripper will appear if you swipe from the edges of the screen. This feature is designed to keep you in your app upon accidental swiping near the edges. You can sipe again on the gripper if you need access Edge content. The gestures are reversed in Right to Left languages. If you swipe from the right, it will become swipe from the left and vice versa.

Working with Snap Layouts

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 has added a new way to snap windows into snap layouts that works intuitively with both touch and mouse. You just need to drag a window to the top of the screen to reveal the snap layouts. You can drop the window on top of a zone to snap it and make use of the snap assist to finish building your layout. Microsoft also improved snap assist to seamlessly animate between zones in a layout for a delightful end-to-end snapping experience.

Improved Power Settings

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 has updated the default values for Sleep and Screen off to reduce energy consumption and carbon emission when PCs are idle. The system also provides power saving recommendations to reduce carbon emissions to those users who have set Sleep and Screen off to Never. The changes to default sleep and screen off settings will only be visible to those performing clean installation of Windows 11 with this build or higher.

Redesigned Task Manager & Efficiency Mode

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 has updated the design of Task Manager to sync with the new Windows 11 design principles. This includes a new hamburger style navigation bar and a new settings page. You will find a new command bar on each page, which gives access to common actions. The Task manager has been refreshed with Dark theme and is designed to automatically match the system-wide theme configured in the Settings app. The Eco Mode has been introduced as Efficiency Mode. If you notice an app that consumes high resources and would like to limit its consumption, the system gives priority to other apps that will lead to faster foreground responsiveness and better energy efficiency. The Efficiency Mode can be applied either by clicking on the command bar in the Processes page or right clicking on the process. You can only apply Efficiency Mode either to single process or to the entire group process. If the option is greyed out, then it implies that a core Windows process consumes resources, and throttling it might affect the performance of the system. The Efficiency mode process will be marked with a new leaf icon. A new pause icon has been introduced for Suspended process to indicate that the relevant process is in suspended mode.

New PowerShell Module

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 includes a new PowerShell module, which provisions language and language-related features. The new PowerShell Module enables users to easily add languages and related language features including management of settings like System Preferred UI Language, System Locale, Input method (Keyboard), Locale, Speech Recognizer, User Language List with the help of PowerShell prompt. These commands work in conjunction with the existing International PowerShell Module, which provides user control over various elements of the UI language on a PC.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 also includes several changes and improvements including bug fixes. We are impressed with the features included with this update.
