Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 Introduces a Secret Feature

IN a secret move, Microsoft brings back estimated installation time in Start | Power in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557. The new entry is available in Update and shut down & Update and restart. However, the estimated timing is not accurate and the system says “up to 0 min”. As of this writing, we can’t judge the correct estimated installation time using this new feature.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22563 update also downloaded on the background and is waiting for installation. We are not sure as to whether the estimated time for installtion is as a result of the installation. However, this is the first time we are seeing this feature after downloading Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22563 build.

Power Option

We expect Microsoft to refine this feature in the upcoming builds. This feature was made available in the previous Windows Insider Preview build but was abandoned due to unknown reasons. Microsoft revealed at that time that the product team is working to address feedback from the community.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 enable users to create and curate folders in the pinned apps area of Start menu. You just need to drag and drop apps on top of each other to add them to the folders. You can remove the apps from the folders by selecting the curated folder and drag/drop each app to the Start menu. For example, you can curate all Office apps into one single folder for easy access. The update also introduces Do Not Disturb and Focus functionalities.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22557 also introduces live captions where content from YouTbe videos are displayed in the form of content. You can customize the location of the live caption. The Quick Access in File Explorer has been improved. Microsoft has integrated OneDrive storage in File Explorer.

You can now view upload progress including the remaining space left. The update also introduces new touch gestures and improved snap layouts. You can just drag a window to the top of the screen to reveal the snap layouts. The update also includes sustainable power settings and recommendations. The main intention is to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. You can also find enhancements to Microsoft Edge and Narrator in addition to several bug fixes.
