The Government of India has issued draft online gaming rules for online gaming. The Government has invited feedback from people and will be accepted until January 17. The move is to curb rampant misuse of online gaming platforms by kids. The Government has proposed a self-regulatory mechanism, compulsory verification of players, and physical Indian addresses for all online gaming companies.
As per the draft online gaming rules, online gaming companies will be covered under the new IT rules 2021 that were issued for all major social media platforms. The companies should comply with the laws of the land including laws related to gambling or betting. The main intention of the draft online gaming ruies is to cultivate responsible online gaming and also to protect the interests and safety of the gamers.
The draft online gaming rules framed by Modi Government warrants companies to display a valid registration mark on all online games. The companies should also reveal to their users regarding withdrawal, refund of the deposit, winnings distribution, fees, and other charges. There will be a mandatory KYC registration for user accounts. This means the relevant user should be able to provide a valid Government issued identity.
According to the draft online gaming rules, companies will have to register with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The registration of online games is made mandatory and will have to be followed by the self-regulatory bodies, who will also resolve complaints and a grievance redressal mechanism.
