Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25300 to the Dev Channel Windows Insiders. The build includes the addition of live captions in more languages including improvements and bug fixes. The live captions have been expanded to support Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and other English dialects. The live captions were first released in the Windows 11 2022 Update in English with special focus on English (United States). Microsoft hopes that with the addition of new languages, this functionality will be useful for people who speak these languages. The product team is working hard to support new languages in the upcoming future.
More languages in Live Captions
The Live Captions can be activated either by pressing WIN+Ctrl+L keyboard shortcut or via the quick settings accessibility flyout through Quick Settings. You will have to download the required speech recognition engine to enable on-device captioning for the first time.
You can download speech recognition engine for live captions by navigating to Settings | Time & Language | Language & region.
Snap Layouts changes
With Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25300, Microsoft has started to roll out new treatments for snap layouts. Microsoft is making an attempt to improve the discoverability and usage of the snap layouts. This includes decreasing the hover time required to invoke the flyout when you hover over the maximum/restore button in an app’s title bar. You will also some treatments such as adding a descriptive title.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25300 has added changes to async voice typing settings, automatic punctuation, and voice typing launcher. These features were initially made available with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25227. You can navigate this feature via Settings | Accounts | Windows backup | Remember my preferences | Accessibility. You should note that this feature only works with Microsoft accounts. You can expect AAD support soon.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25300 has updated Startup page to access additional information about the apps listed. If you right-click on a Win32 app in Start and select Uninstall, you will be able to uninstall the app. The flight improved the upgrade experience to the new Windows Subsystem for Linux Store app and it prompts for installation if wsl.exe is invoked.
If the seconds in the clock on the system tray disappeared after the installation of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25295, then the issue has been resolved. This feature was originally introduced in Build 25247. The issue pertaining to Taskbar being cut off after resolution changes including IME candidate window and IME toolbar cropping issue has been resolved. The drag/drop files and folders across tabs should work without any glitches after the installation of this build.
