Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314

Microsoft Drops Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 as First Canary Channel Flight

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel. If you are a Windows Insider in the Dev Channel on the 25000 series, then you will be automatically moved to the new Canary Channel. Microsoft has initiated steps to migrate the channel in the background.

Alternatively, you can move to the Canary Channel manually by navigating to Settings | Windows Update | Windows Insider Program. You will receive Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 immediately after you move to the Canary channel. If you would like to move back to the Dev Channel, then you have to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 and rejoin the Dev Channel. You will be able to receive 23000 series builds after you complete the installation process.

Microsoft will provide limited documentation for Windows 11 made available to the Canary Channel. This is because the Canary Channel builds are hot off the presses. Microsoft will publish blog post only when new features are available in a build. You can follow the official Twitter handle of Windows Insider Program for updates.

Access Keys in File Explorer

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 has added access key shortcuts into the XAML context menu in File Explorer. If you are unaware, an access key is a one keystroke shortcut, which enables keyboard users to quickly execute a command directly in the context menu. The access keys will correspond with a letter in the display name.

According to Microsoft sources, this move is part of their effort to make it accessible and user-friendly File Explorer. You just need to click on a file via File Explorer and press the menu key on the keyboard. However, you will be able to work with this new feature only if you view the pizza icon on the command bar in File Explorer. This denotes that you are previewing the latest version of Windows APP SDK. Microsoft has started to push this feature in a phased manner and it will take some time to hit the devices of Windows Insiders.

File Recommendations in File Explorer

Microsoft has introduced File Recommendations in File Explorer Home to provide users with the most relevant file content directly. However, this feature will be available only to those users who are signed into Windows with an Azure Active Directory (AAD) account. The recommended files will be cloud files associated with that particular account. It could be either owned by the user or shared with the user. Microsoft has started to push this feature and hence will be available only to a select group of Canary Channel users.

Working with LSA Protection Enablement on Upgrade

Local Security Authority aka LSA protection is designed to protect against theft of secrets and credentials used for login purposes. The system works by preventing unauthorized code from running in the LSA process. The dumping of process memory will be prevented. Windows 11 will perform audit for a period of time to verify incompatibilities with LSA protection.

The LSA protection will be automatically activated if there are no incompatibilities. You will be able to verify the enablement state of LSA protection via the Windows Security application located under Device Security | Core Isolation page. The aim of LSA protection is to check whether programs are blocked from loading into LSA in the event log.

Narrator Outlook Support

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 has added Narrator support in Outlook. Microsoft hasn’t added any additional capabilities to Outlook support. However, this work will enable updates to the Outlook experience to be made available via the Microsoft Store. The Narrator Outlook support is limited to US English only. You can expect support for other languages in upcoming flights.

Microsoft has disabled the Remote Mailslot protocol to enhance Windows 11 security. The legacy Remote Mailshot Protocol will be deprecated in an upcoming Windows release. It was introduced in Windows NT 3.1 as a simple, unreliable, and insecure inter-process communication protocol between a client and server.

About Canary Channel

Microsoft introduced Canary Channel in addition to Dev, Beta, and Release Preview Channels. The features included with the Canary Channel require longer-lead time before being made available to customers. This could include major changes to the Windows Kernel and new APIs.

The company revealed that some of the upcoming Canary Channel features will never ship. However, you can expect few of them in future Windows releases. You should note that the builds pushed to the Canary Channel will be hot off the presses This means it will be made available immediately after the development with little or no significant documentation.

Microsoft will provide the documentation only if there are new features. Microsoft added that there will be no daily builds but this could be a possibility soon. You can keep track of the developments via the official Windows Insider Program Twitter handle.
