Twitter has removed legacy verified Twitter Blue ticks in mass from those accounts. The Blue tick has been removed for those accounts that haven’t paid for Twitter Blue subscription. As of this writing, Twitter Blue is priced at INR 6800 per year if paid via the web.
Elon Musk-owned Twitter previously revealed that legacy blue ticks will vanish on April 1. However, it turned out to be April Fool’s joke. However, the current development has taken several celebrities and politicians by surprise.
We have seen that the official Twitter accounts of Mohanlal, Mammooty, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his cabinet colleagues, and other major influential persons don’t feature Twitter Blue sign. The company will provide Twitter Blue only if they pay as per the terms.
The latest development is a good sign because Twitter now implemented equality. Previously, celebrities and politicians enjoyed free Blue Tick they received as a status symbol. The current state is that all people can now pay and get Twitter Blue irrespective of their affiliations.
Twitter Blue can be purchased via both mobile and the web. However, purchase through mobile will cost more than the web. You can also buy Twitter Blue Tick subscription but you have to pay again depending upon the payment cycle to retain the verified tick mark. The current situation is bit tragic because celebrities and politicians could be subject to impersonation. That being said, Elon Musk has implemented equality by opening Twitter Blue program for all users. Even if you are not a celebrity, you can apply and get Twitter Blue tick maark as a symbol of pride.
