Microsoft Launches Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1680 and 22624.1680 With New Widget Experience

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1680 and 22624.1680 to the Beta Channel. While in Build 22624.1680 the new features are rolling out, the new features are switched off by default in Build 22621.1680. If you are on Build 22623, then you will be automatically moved to Build 22624 via an enablement package.

The latest flight has introduced revamped widget board experience with a larger canvas and new zones. The aim is to provide users quick access to glanceable widgets from their apps and services. This feature is currently being pushed in a phased manner for all Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. The company intends to monitor feedback before pushing the refreshed Widgets board to all users.

After the installation of the update, you will find animated icons for Widgets on the Taskbar. The animation will be triggered when you hover or click on the Widgets Taskbar entry point. The animation will also be activated when a new widget announcement is displayed on your Taskbar. However, animation effects are supported only on a few weather and finance icons.

The Windows 11 Build 22624.1680 has resolved issues related to access keys in File Explorer. If you press Shift and right-click on a file or folder then Show more options should now open again. The flight has adjusted how Narrator reads out the access keys after pressing the menu key. The update resolved an issue where the touch keyboard and PIN entry weren’t appearing on the login screen for touch-capable PCs.

The update has resolved an issue that caused clipping in live captions text for non-English languages. The flight has fixed an issue in Language & region settings that caused language feature installation progress to be hidden.

The update has added enhanced language recognition support in Language & region settings aimed at ARM64 devices. You need not have to restart live captions after switching caption languages installed from Language & region settings. However, you should uninstall speech pack entries by navigating to Settings | Apps | Installed apps. The flight has resolved an issue where 2FA codes aren’t being recognized if they were inside parentheses.

The Windows 11 Build 22624.1680 has fixed an issue related to service host in the Processes section. The flight also improved the performance of the expand all/collapse all View options on the Processes page. If the search icon ends up overlapping the Task Manager icon in the title bar, then the problem has been resolved. The issue pertaining to the Task Manager reliability has been resolved.

Microsoft is yet to launch Windows Insider Preview builds for Dev and the newly launched Canary Channel this week. We expect a launch on Friday. Microsoft had revealed that there will be no daily Canary Channel builds.
