In an unexpected development, Microsoft has announced new round of job cuts via an Internal memo to the affected people. According to reports, nearly 276 workers have been given pink slips across various departments such as customer service, support, and sales. The reports indicate that Microsoft has started to restructure various departments as it starts the new fiscal year. You should note that the US fiscal year ends on June 30 every year.
Commenting on the development, a Microsoft spokesperson disclosed that organizational and workforce adjustments are part of parcel of business management. The company will continue to prioritize and make investments in strategic growth areas for the ultimate growth and support of customers and partners. A filing with the Washington State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) system revealed that the company handed over pink slips to 276 workers. The Redmond headquarters saw high count layoffs with 210 workers laid off and the remaining goes to the Bellevue location.
To recall, Microsoft handed over pink slips to over 10000 workers globally on January 18. The tech analysts reported that this is the first major layoffs in the history of Microsoft. The Windows manufacturer continues to analyze core areas that should be given thrust to scale the company. Microsoft has invested heavily in the AI arena by integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Bing Chat. It’s to be noted that Amazon and Google also handed over pink slips to massive number of workers to handle the recession.
