Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 to Dev Channel Insiders

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 to the Dev Channel. Microsoft has rolled out a single Windows Spotlight experience for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. This includes previewing images at full screen including multiple opportunities to learn about each image and a minimized user experience. You should right-click on the Spotlight icon on the desktop to open the Windows Spotlight experience. Alternatively, you can also double-click on the icon to launch a Bing landing page directly for additional information on each image. You can also enable Windows Spotlight by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting “Personalize” option. You should then select the new Spotlight theme.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 has improved the camera streaming issue. If a problem has been detected during streaming, a pop-up dialog will be visible with the suggestion to launch the automated Get Help troubleshooter to resolve the issue. The update also temporarily deactivated the Windows Copilot Preview. However, you can force activate it via Group Policy Editor: User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Copilot. The Windows Copilot Preview will be enabled by default in a future flight with support for Bing Chat for Enterprise.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 has enhanced Start menu experience. You will view a preview when hovering over files such as Word documents under Recommended on the Start menu. However, you will be able to view this new feature only if you are logged into a Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise edition with an AAD account.

The thumbnails will not be available for all files. You can expect the extension of the experience for more files and for MSA users. You can also quickly share the files when right-clicking on cloud file recommendations. Windows 11 system components will now display a system label under All Apps in the Start menu. Microsoft has pushed these new features to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel in a phased manner. Hence, you will not view the new change immediately.

After the installation of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511, the Notifications will now display as a bell in the system tray. The bell will colorize based on your system accent color when new notifications come through. The bell will be empty when there are no notifications and the clock is visible. The total number of Notification counts is not displayed. this flight has improved the performance of the calculating phase when sending a large number of files in junk in File Explorer to the Recycle Bin.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 has resolved the bugs pertaining to the deactivation of suggestions in Snap Layouts. This feature has been enabled again since it enables users to instantly snap multiple app windows together. You will view app icons displayed in various layout options to suggest the best layout option while hovering over the Minimize or Maximize button on an app to launch the layout box. This feature is currently being rolled out in a phased manner to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.

Microsoft has once again rolled out the new Settings homepage to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. The product team has resolved the bug that caused instability while working with the new settings dashboard and was disabled in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23506. The update has started to roll out a new option under Settings | Bluetooth & devices | Phone Link to disable Phone Link in Windows 11. This setting will automatically prevent Phone Link from communicating with your mobile devices.

The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 has resolved an issue where copying files out of large archives or using Extract All could be slower than expected for solid .7Z or .rar archives. The update has fixed an issue related to decompressing of the newly supported archive format types. If the context menu background in File Explorer was appearing transparent, then the issue has been resolved.

The update fixed an issue that prevented apps from opening upon selecting a notification popup. The issue related to NotifyiconGeneratedAumid_* has been resolved. The flight has fixed multiple explorer.exe crashes that were impacting the reliability of the Taskbar.

If the quick settings does not open when selecting the network, volume, and battery icons in the system tray, then the issue has been fixed. The desktop switching animation has been adjusted to simplify the animations. The issue pertaining to search, when set to hide in Taskbar settings, has been resolved. If the Microsoft Edge address box didn’t work properly, then the issue has been resolved.

Microsoft has announced the August 2023 Bug Bash starting August 2. The bug bash will cover the latest features available in preview builds across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels.
