Microsoft is reportedly testing Bing AI integration on Windows 11 Copilot. If you are unaware, the Windows Copilot introduced by Microsoft combines the power of AI with Windows 11. The inbox plugin, spotted in a JSON file in Windows 11 Build 23506 is designed to change the way users work with Windows 11. As of this writing, Windows Coipilot is limited to certain functionalities. The Set Windows Theme Plugin enables users to modify the device theme from Light to Dark and vice versa. The Fix Slow PC, Close app, and Screen Snipping plugins provide the ability to enhance PC performance, close apps and capture screenshots.
The Set Timer and Set Alarm plugins included with Windows Copilot provide the ability to set alarms and custom timers. The Suggest Media plugin enables users to ask for movie recommendations. Going forward, you can expect Microsoft to push additional plugins to Windows 11 Copilot. This includes the ability to customize advanced settings and much more.
Windows Copilot is available only for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. However, the Redmond-based software giant has removed the Coipilot in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 for users signed using AAD. The company is expected to throw in Windows Copilot support in Canary Channel soon. The functionality is limited but you can expect enhanced features by the end of 2023. Microsoft will also bundle the new Copilot with Windows 11 23H2 in October/November timeframe.
Windows Copilot is powered by Bing AI based on OpenAI’s GPT 4 Large Language Mode. The Copilot makes use of Windows 11 APIs to communicate with the apps. AI is the future and Windows 11 Copilot will enhance productivity to a large extent. The integration of Bing AI on Windows 11 Copilot will be a big blow for competitors because Microsoft can tap search engine business with this initiative.
