Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25931 to the Canary Channel. Microsoft has specifically mentioned Canary Channel in the title of the blog post. The Redmond-based software giant also released ISos for this build. This flight includes new features from the dev Channel such as Unicode Emoji 15 support. Moreover, voice access is available on additional areas in Windows such as Lock screen.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25931 has block the usage of NetBIOS\WINS\mailslot-based methods for DC-discovery. You can revert this behavior with the usage of a new Group Policy setting named BlockNetBIOSDiscovery. The reversion to default behavior also requires the enablement of the EnableMailslots SMB configuration option. You can query and configure the EnableMailslots setting using the Get-SmbClientConfiguration and Set-SmbClientConfiguration PowerShell cmdlets. Microsoft also added additional client-side logic to aid in the mapping of short NetBIOS-style domain names to DNS domain names. The DC locator will automatically download additional information about the child domains and make use of them as part of the discovery algorithm.
Revised Expiration Date
Microsoft has updated the expiration date for Windows Insider Preview builds that are flighted to the Canary Channel to September 15, 2024, starting with this build. You should make sure to update Windows 11 to the latest Canary Channel build regularly. Moreover, the Photos app, People app, and Remote desktop (MSTSC) client can be uninstalled just like the Cortana app. The flight has added more fields to display the Details pane such as image dimensions, number of pages for .DOCX, space used, free information for drivers, and much more.
You can instantly sync your Windows accent color with the devices around you with the “Match my Windows accent color” toggle. This option is located under “Effects” for Dynamic Lighting via Settings | Personalization | Dynamic Lighting. If the default Windows 11 background or solid color is being used, then Windows Spotlight could be enabled. You can deactivate the option if you don’t want to enable Windows Spotlight. The flight has resolved an issue where you could not establish connectivity over SMB to a third-party storage device using guest. There is no need to apply username and password as credentials.
The builds that are pushed to the Canary Channel are hot off the presses. Microsoft will provide limited documentation only if there any new features or impactful issues. There will be some features you will find that are not provided in the official blog post.
