Microsoft has announced the launch of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.2199 and Build 22631.2199 (KB5029352) to the Beta Channel. While the new features are rolling out in Build 22631.2199, the new features are deactivated by default in the 22621.2199 build. Microsoft revealed that Insiders who were previously on Build 22624 will automatically get moved to Build 22631 via an enablement package. It artificially increments the build number for the update with new features. This technique is being used for the Beta Channel only and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22631.2199 has added native support for reading additional archive file formats using the libarchive open-source project such as .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.zst, .tar.xz, .tgz, .tbz2, .tzst, .txz, .rar and.7z. You should note that encrypted archives and not currently supported. A blank preview area will not display for files that do not have rich thumbnail previews. This is related to the rich thumbnail previews for cloud files on Start that was started to roll out with Build 22631.2129.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22631.2199 has activated never combined mode on the Taskbar. This feature can be located by right-clicking on the taskbar | Taskbar settings | Taskbar behaviors and selecting Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to never. The update has changed default verbosity level from 2 to 3, which will now announce Immediate Context Name and Type. The Control context type such as list or toolbar will enable users to understand the focused control such as JAWS and NVDA. The Narrator users are unblocked for typing Traditional Chinese characters in Windows by the addition of Traditional Chinese dictionary for detailed reading.
Narrator announces the & of the attachment while navigating to any attachment in Outlook with scan mode. If you navigate to different headings in Scan Mode using down arrow or Space + 4 key in Braille device, heading navigation is reflected in Braille. Braille display also reflects the same index values as 1 of 4 whenever Narrator index with the menu item name. The End Task feature under System | For Developers no longer requires Developer Mode to be enabled first before it can be used. Microsoft has added Development to the list and toggling it on will launch Dev Home.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22631.2199 has resolved an issue that causes app icons in the Taskbar not to move and start overlapping. If safely remove hardware icon is not appearing in the system tray, then the issue is resolved. The issues pertaining to End Task feature have been resolved. Microsoft has done work to improve the performance of archive functionality during Windows compression. The flight resolved an issue that causes typing with the Japanese and Chinese IMEs to not work properly. The update also resolved issues related to HDR wallpaper and select .JXL files.
Microsoft has started to roll out updated Snipping Tool to the Beta Channel Windows Insiders. Microsoft has added options to edit an image in Paint and videos in Clipchamp.
