X (formerly Twitter) is facing a massive outage since Monday night India time. We observed this since Tuesday morning. The reports suggest that X is facing a massive outage as thousands of users are unable to access the web version in the US. They are greeted with the message Nothing to see here, while few people are able to view an image. There is a button captioned “Looking for this? but when clicked, the page refreshes. The links given at the bottom of the page work fine.
According to Downdetector, they have received more than 17000 reports of outages until 23:24 GMT. Moreover, the portal revealed that 79% of users have reported problems with X. The problem is only with the web version and the X on mobile is working perfectly good.
Ever since Elon Musk took over the reins of X, the platform has been undergoing plenty of changes. The Verified system, which was only available to select group of people before was thrown to all people upon paying a fixed amount either monthly or yearly. Elon announced several offers for verified customers and it includes longer posts and quality videos. X also introduced formatting options like Bold and Italics for Verified customers. Moreover, Verified customers will be able to access unlimited tweets as opposed to unverified customers whose views have been capped amidst opposition.
Elon also fired nearly 55% of employees in order to keep the finances checked. According to tech analysts, the recent bout of outrage was caused due to lack of employees to address the various problems pertaining to servers and data center. The SpaceX owner admitted that there has been a decline of 50% in the ad revenue since he took over charge of X. Musk appointed a full-time CEO Linda Yaccarino, who had worked with advertisers in the past. Musk believes that Linda will be able to calm down advertisers.
