Amazon’s Leadership Change: Panos Panay Takes Helm of Devices & Services

Amazon has announced the appointment of Panos Panay as Devices & Services leader with immediate effect. Panos will directly report to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and will replace Dave Limp, who is due to retire from service this year. Panos will join Amazon by the end of October. Moreover, Dave will continue to work with him until later this year to ensure a smooth transition.

In a press note, Dave added that he is excited about the upcoming inventions and businesses they are going to build in Devices & Services segment. There are reports that Amazon will manufacture tablets powered by Amazon Alexa. Panos will work to make Alexa a better destination for customers in this Generative AI times.

Commenting on the Panos Panay appointment, Amazon CEO Andy added that he know him for several years and will be a great addition to the company. Panos is a passionate and dedicated product leader and he can’t wait to see his inventions. He disclosed that Amazon will diligently work with Panos for the next two months to ensure a smooth transition through their fall launches.

Talking about Panos’s background, he worked 19+ years at Microsoft as EVP and Chief Product Officer. He managed a team professionally and was involved in the development of Windows 11 and Surface devices. It is under his leadership Microsoft Surface was launched.

He was Corporate VP for Microsoft Devices including General Manager of Surface and PC Hardware. He created and introduced the Surface product line, which is currently the big market for the Redmond-based software giant. Dave added that Panos will be a great addition to Amazon’s Devices and Services because of his strong experience in not only hardware but also integrated services.
