Vi QR Code Technology Ensures Child Safety at Sabarimala

Vi has established partnership with Kerala Police to ensure the ultimate safety of child pilgrims visiting the holy Sabarimala. The company believes that the safety of children is of utmost importance during the ongoing Mandala pooja season. The mobile operator has rolled out Vi QR code technology to support Kerala Police Force.

The purpose is to make sure that the children don’t get separated from parents on the route between Pamba and Sannidhanam. The Vi QR code technology was launched by Ajith IPS, who serves as the Pathanamthitta District Police Chief in presence of Binu Jose, VP, Vodafone Idea Limited.

According to police sources, the children getting lost in the crowd is normal during the peak Mandala pooja season. Moreover, the efforts to reunite the misplaced wards with their dear ones have been a major distraction and worry for the police force. The Vi QR code technology is designed to keep pilgrims safe and secure.

Commenting on the development, Binu Jose, Vice President & Circle Operations Head – Kerala, Vodafone Idea Limited disclosed that Vi has been a pioneer in leveraging telecom technology expertise to bring value-added products and services to simplify lifestyle. With an estimated 45 to 50 million devotees thronging to the shrine, Kerala Police finds it difficult to solve thousands of complaints of lost children during the Mandala and Makara Vilakku seasons. The company hopes that the QR code technology will benefit the masses including simplifying the task of Kerala Police force to a great extent.

Responding to media, Ajith V IPS, Pathanamthitta District Police Chief disclosed that they are happy to associate with Vi to introduce the technological aid to address the issues faced during Mandala and Makara Vilakku season. The Vi QR code technology band will drastically reduce the efforts of the Kerala Police to address the missing cases of child pilgrims. The main aim is to unite the child pilgrims with their parents.

To avail Vi QR code technology, pilgrims should visit the nearest Vi store in Kerala or Pamba. A special Vi QR code powered band will be provided including the code that can be registered with the mobile number of the parent. The band should be tied to the children’s wrist.

If a lost child is spotted near Sabarimala, he/she can be deposited at the nearest Kerala Police check post. The Kerala Police officials will scan the QR code and call the registered number of the parent. The concerned child will be in the safe hands of Kerala Police until his/her parent arrives to collect their ward. The Vi QR code bands will be active during the pilgrim season and are not transferable.
