Microsoft Kills Windows Subsystem for Android

In a surprise development, Microsoft have announced that Windows Subsystem for Android through which Android apps support on Windows 11 was made available. The company revealed that Windows Subystem for Android support will end on March 5, 2025. The Android apps support was one of the popular features that was announced during the initial launch of Windows 11. The latest news is that Windows Subsystem for Android will be discontinued after March 5, 2025. If you are looking for an alternative solution, then you can consider BlueStacks, MSI App Player, and Phone Link app.

You can continue to work with the installed Android apps on Windows 11 until the end of support on March 5, 2025. Microsoft has posted the below information on the official Windows Subsystem for Android page.

According to Microsoft, customers who have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps before March 5, 2024, can continue to work with the apps until the deprecation date of March 5, 2025. The message also states that users can reach out to the support team for any clarifications until March 5, 2025.

Windows users have been anxiously looking forward to work with Android apps on Windows 11. However, this feature was never made available in India. Even though Android apps are best suited for Android devices, Microsoft made a brave attempt to provide users with a unique user experience.

The Windows Subsystem for Android depends upon Amazon Appstore instead of Google apps. There are reports that the platform didn’t worked as expected. That being said, the Redmond-based software giant had released periodic updates to the Windows Subsystem for Android to keep it running smooth. This includes improved compatibility with PC hardware, resolving issues, and enhancing security. The decision to kill Android apps support on Windows 11 comes as pleasant surprise for tech-savvy enthusiasts since they would like to experiment Android apps on Windows 11.

Alternatively, you can make use of BlueStacks Android emulator, which enables you to run all kinds of apps with support for Google apps. You can also make use of MSI App Player functionality, Huawei Android integration, or Phone Link app as per your requirement. These features were made available only in Samsung Galaxy smartphones and the Surface Do family.
