Microsoft Introduces Bing Generative Search with Intelligent Features

Microsoft has released an early preview of the Bing generative search experience. This new feature is currently being shipped to a small parentage of user queries. The aim is to gather feedback before the global rollout. To recall, Microsoft introduced LLM-enabled char answers on Bing in February 2023 shortly after the release of Bing Chat. The Bing generative search automatically creates a dynamic response to relevant queries by leveraging Generative AI and Large Language Models.

Microsoft demonstrated the functionality of Bing generative search with a query – What is a spaghetti western?. Microsoft Bing displays the AI-enabled experience with information about the film subgenre, history, origin, top examples, and much more. The generated search results are easier to read and understand compared to competitors.

The result also provides relevant links and sources to enable users to explore additional information about the search result. The regular search results will continue to display as before. The new user experience is being created with a combination of large and small language models. The results are fetched via millions of sources and intelligently match content. The search results are displayed in a new AI-generated layout.

Microsoft has improved its methods to optimize accuracy in generating search results on Bing. According to Microsoft, the new user experience maintains the number of clicks to websites and provides support for a healthy web ecosystem. The new generative search experience retains not only traditional search results but also increases the number of clickable links.

Microsoft is currently rolling out the Bing generative search functionality in a phased manner. The purpose is to gather feedback and refine the system via test and learn approach.
