Samsung is gearing up to release Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones at the MWC 2018 in February. Although not confirmed by the company, we surely expect the integration of Android Oreo with Galaxy S9 series based on facts and assumptions. However, we don’t have any information as to whether the smartphones will ship with either Android 8.0 Oreo or Android 8.1 Oreo. There is a possibility for the integration of version 8.1 with latest security updates and patches.
In 2017, Samsung released Galaxy S8 series with Android Nougat. Hence, we can surely conclude that the upcoming smartphones will be pre-loaded with Android Oreo and not Android Nougat since Google already released Oreo platform. Moreover, Samsung will also push Android Oreo update for the currently available Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones.
Interestingly, the release date of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 has been leaked via Evan Blass. As usual, the release date has been leaked via a smartphone case manufacturer to Blass. According to Blass, a C-level executive who works with a major case manufacturing company has provided crucial information about the launch date.
According to a C-level executive at a major casemaker, the go-to-market schedule for Galaxy S9 / S9+ is as follows:
Launch – 2/26
Pre-orders – 3/1
Ships/releases – 3/16— Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 16, 2018
If the rumors are to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will launch on February 26, which is one day ahead of MWC 2018. Moreover, the company will kickstart pre-order process on March 1 with estimated shipping date as March 16. You should note that this timeline is applicable to US-based customers. In India, Samsung will hold separate launch event and then start pre-order via Amazon or Flipkart.
Based on rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be available in both 64GB and 128GB storage capacities with 4GB RAM. However, the premium variant will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB expandable storage capacities with 6GB RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 features a 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels. There will be no change in the rear camera since it will be 12MP SuperSpeed Dual Pixel sensor coupled with f/1.5 aperture. The main attraction of the Galaxy S9 series is the ability to capture super slow motion videos at 960fps.
Going forward, we can expect more leaks and rumors to emerge including images and leaked videos. There is a possibility fora video to get leaked before the official launch. We expect the addition of an enhanced AI-enabled Bixby voice assistant.
If there is any big difference, you can expect an increase in the display size for the standard Galaxy S9 variant. That being said, be prepared to pay more than the currently available model because of latest features.
