UMANG Review: Avail Services Under A Single Umbrella

UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is a trending mobile app developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in association with National e-Governance Division shortly called as NeGD. With the help of the mobile app, you will be able to take advantage of the various e-governance services offered by the various central, state, local bodies including public sector companies.

The main purpose of the UMANG is to bring all Government departments including their services on a single platform. The end result is to offer people with improved services. Moreover, the app is available not only for Android but also iOS and Windows platforms.

The UMANG mobile app is exclusively designed to align government services with the Mobile First strategy and also to enable citizens to make use of all government services with minimum time. Moreover, the app integrates with various Digital India services such as Aadhaar, Pan Card, DigiLocker including CBSE, NCERT, Indane and Bharat Gas.

Installation

To work with UMANG app, you need to download it from the Google Play Store and install on your smartphone. Initially, you will have to complete the required steps, which includes generation of OTP and Aadhaar authentication. According to the official app product page, the profile data is stored in encrypted format.

Working

After the installation, the UMANG app will prompt you to verify via OTA. After that, you will have to link Aadhaar. However, we faced few problem and skipped the process. You can link Aadhaar anytime by clicking “Click here to update your profile” option located on the display.

You can also complete your profile, update account settings and add social media accounts. The dashboard displays a list of all the available services. You have to click any of the services and proceed further.

For example, if you select Bharat Gas, you will be able to book refill cylinders, view a history of refills including placing a DBC request. If you select Aadhaar Card option, you need to provide login credentials of DigiLocker.

With the help of the CBSE module, you can locate schools, examination centers and the ability to view results of affiliated schools and IIT JEE results.

It is also possible to view information about soil health card. However, the app is unable to fetch relevant information for any of the places.

The big advantage of UMANG is that you can interact with the customer support directly within the app via live chat. You should select the first icon located on the top portion adjacent to the search box, which enables you to easily find a specific service.

Conclusion

UMANG is an excellent mobile app, which is used to access various services related to Government and other related agencies. You need not have to SMS to book LPG cylinders. You just need to tap the relevant icon and complete the booking process from within the app including the ability to view the previous history in detail. The main goal of the app is to simplify the complicated process involved in availing the various services. The app is currently in the beta stage and we expect more services to integrate with the app within the next few months.
