WWDC 2021: iOS 15, macOS Monterey, iPadOS 15 and WatchOS 8 – Everything you need to know

Apple has announced big developments at WWDC 2021 with the launch of iOS 15, macOS Monterey, watchOS 8, iPadOS 15, and much more. The WWDC 2021 is mainly oriented for developers and the company will only release new features related to various operating platforms.

iOS 15

The iOS 15 introduced during WWDC 2021 brings in all new FaceTime, grouped notifications, SharePlay, Live Text, and others. macOS Monterey has introduced Shortcuts and Universal Control including whole new Safari browser among other features. Meanwhile, watchOS 8 includes UW car, hotel keys to Apple Watch in addition to respiratory rate tracking. Apple has released new software-related enhancements for iPhones, improved multitasking on iPads, enhancements to macOS, and new fitness features.

The iOS 15 brings in FaceTime spatial audio, voice isolation, portrait mode blurs, links for scheduled calls meeting, and SharePlay. You will be able to share music and video playlists with friends over a video call. The iMessages gets a boost with an in-app browser including shared content with chat bookmarks and much more.

The grouped notifications can distinguish important and unimportant stuff. The update also introduced Slack-like notifications, private messages classification and new Focus Mode controls.

The Live text functionality makes use of Apple’s neural engine to provide image to text conversion for media files. The Spotlight search provides better results for both offline and online queries. The iOS 15 also includes a Wallet app with support for UWB keys to BMW cars, hotel rooms, and smart locks. Apple has refreshed Weather and Maps apps with improved features.

macOS Monterey

The new macOS Monterey ships with a new Safari browser with a new and seamless tab design. The new Shortcuts feature enables users to automate several tasks from the OS. Moreover, the addition of Quick Note helps you to jolt notes on the go. The OS also gets updated with Focus mode, FaceTime, and SharePlay in addition to Shared With You section. The macOS Monterey also comes with AirPlay, Live text, iCloud+, and new privacy features.

iPadOS 15

The main focus point of iPadOS 15 is multitasking, which is very much required for iPad tablets. The iPadOS 15 includes new keyboard shortcuts, new docking bar, and improved widgets. You can group apps as per genres and can be accessed from app galleries. The performance of the Translate app for smoother language translations.

WatchOS 8

Apple launched watchOS 8 at the WWDC 2021 with new wallet features, checked in hotel rooms, and much more. The Home app helps you to manage smart home controls directly from the Watch. The new Tai Chi and Pilates workouts have been added to the wearable. The Breathe app is renamed Mindfulness, which provides users an enhanced breathing experience. The tracking mode automatically tracks sleeping respiratory rates. The Messages module enables you to send more intuitive scribbles and GIF responses. The interesting point to note is that Siri is coming to third-party smart home devices. The Tim Cook-owned company also introduced Mail Privacy protection, App Privacy Report, Sire voice queries, iCloud Private relay VPN service, email, and browser IP masking including secure paste of text data.
