In a first, India’s first Blockchain wedding was held between Pune-based couples. The bride and groom exchange NFT vows in presence of a digital priest. The new development comes after a Tamil couple decided to conduct their wedding reception digitally in Metaverse. Anil Narasipuram and Shruti Nair based in Pune married on the Blockchain after completing a Registered Marriage amidst the COVID-19 pandemic on November 15, 2021. The couple decided to make their marriage blockchain official to keep their relationship tight in digital fashion.
The wedding of Anil and Shruti was conducted by digital priest Anoop Pakki, who exchanged vows before their laptops. The family and friends watched the entire proceedings on Google Meet. The NFT created by the couple features Shruti’s engagement ring with their vows embossed on the picture. The priest then mined the NFT on OpenSea platform and transferred it to the couple by the powers vested in him by Ethereum. The priest showered his blessings by stating that “And now, by the power vested in me by Ethereum, it is my honor and delight to declare you married. I am pleased to present the newlyweds.” The marriage process will end after this statement.
In a LinkedIn post, Shruti and himself made their marriage “Blockchain official” with an Ethereum smart contract in the form of an NFT minted on OpenSea.
We won’t make any big promises, but we will do everything we can to make this work. Through all our disagreement and conflict, we hope to grow our understanding of each other and ourselves. We don’t expect to be the whole village for each other, but we will be by each other’s side, hand in hand, walking through this adventure, together
The whole Blockchain marriage will be concluded in 15 minutes instead of 2-3 days of marriage with crowds. Anil revealed that the transaction is permanent, immutable, and public record of their commitment to each other on the ETH blockchain. The Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) are digital files that serve as digital signatures to certify the ownership of photos, videos, and other online media. The NFTs enable people to buy and sell ownership of unique digital items including keep track of Blockchain ownership.
