You should capture a complete backup of your WhatsApp account including locally stored images. You should purchase a brand new smartphone pre-loaded with the latest Android version and then migrate all the content from your old device to the new smartphone. You can retain the old phone but you will not be able to upgrade to the latest WhatsApp version. YOu should note that all the devices available now are latest and you should check the specifications.
